Just spotted this article. One interesting fact he picked up on is a bit of history that few journalists bear to mention, that Stryper was helped tremendously by having a real good start in Japan, thanks to one very proactive rock critic. Read about it here.

“I’ve come down with a horrible case of the flu and now it seems to be spreading throughout the bus.

I see reports all over the nation where bad cases of the flu are hitting America and had hoped we could make it through this entire tour without it affecting us, but unfortunately it has. It’s really bad and I wish our friends and fans all the best with their health during this season. I have seen a doctor and am on medication and anticipate a speedy recovery. My sincerest apologies to all the fans for this inconvenience but I look forward to seeing you all in December when we return. Just for these two shows we will be putting together a special Christmas segment of the show. It’ll be great to spend the holidays with our friends and fans in Dallas and Houston.”

The rescheduled shows will include a special Christmas segment and will include the fan favorite ‘Reason for the Season’, never before performed live at a Stryper show.

Tickets purchased for each concert will be honored on the rescheduled dates.

Fan meet and greet purchases will also be honored on the rescheduled dates.

  • Stryper is currently on tour, click here to see all current tour dates.
  • By His Strypes: a 25 year retrospective book is now available for order. Quantities are extremely limited.
  • Whip It has been released in theaters nation-wide. Wear your Stryper shirt to the movie, take a photo and email it and I’ll post it here.
  • Michael Sweet is engaged, read about it here. Congratulations Mike, I’m so happy for you, and look forward to seeing all the great things God will do for you and Lisa in the future.
  • The music video shoot for I Believe did not take place as planned. Rumor has it Alive may be in the works to be shot. Personally, I think I Believe was a superior choice. But I’ll be happy with ANY video, being that there hasn’t been an official one since Believe (which wasn’t really seen).

Murder By Pride Is Stryper’s Seargant Pepper

In the 25+ year evolution of Stryper, they’ve gone through roughly 4 phases.

The Yellow & Black Attack

The Yellow & Black Attack

In phase I you had Classic Stryper, encompassing The Yellow & Black Attack and Soldiers Under Command. The sound, early 80’s guitar driven metal, well composed raw music that stood out amoungst the best of the best Hollywood bands.

In Phase II you have what was (previously) highly regarded as Stryper’s elemental albums, To Hell With The Devil. THWTD is full of killer commercial and metal tracks that catapulted Stryper into music history. At the forefront was Honestly, Stryper’s breakthrough hit. Then In God We Trust, regarded by many as THWTD II, was an evolution of the original with even more highly produced commercial tracks. But, the success created a tipping point for Stryper, that entered them into a long, tumultuous era.

Here, in Phase III, there’s Against the Law AND Reborn, both of which I regard as transitional Stryper albums. Against The Law was an attempt to move away from the perfectionistic IGWT, and Reborn an attempt to evolve the Stryper sound into a new millennium. While both have some stand out memorable tracks, and though they were recorded a good 10 years apart, they both stand out as excellent work. But, at the same time both are departures from the Stryper sound that many came to know and love dearly.

Murder By Pride, the fourth phase and most prolific album by Stryper marks a true new era for fans old and new. Stryper becomes a legend with the release of this album.
